Director, Administration & Programmes, with the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN), Godwin Uyi Ojo has been conferred the prestigious African Noble Award by Leadtimes Africa Magazine.
This year’s award, like previous years, is aimed at promoting the virtues of integrity, accountability, and transparency in public and private sectors, promoting good governance in the society as well as instituting interaction among all the stakeholders in leadership.

It is also aimed at complimenting the effort of African leaders in the ongoing crusade against corruption in the continent.
Godwin Ojo was honoured in recognition of his contributions to strategic national development and pragmatism in leadership.
The ERA director’s experience in environmental activism spans nearly two decades within which period he has campaigned relentlessly for environmental justice in the Niger Delta impacted by oil extraction activities.

A conflict resolution consultant, Ojo along with Nnimmo Bassey and Barrister Oronto Douglas co-founded the Environmental Rights Action in 1993, and has used this platform to increase environmental awareness and citizens’ response to environmental issues in Nigeria.
He holds a PhD covering environment, politics and development from the King’s College, London. He has also authored several books and is a lead conference facilitator on environment and development issues at national and international levels.
